November 7, from 12-4 on the beautiful Mesa of Topanga Canyon we will meet and use plant dyes to create one of a kind masterpieces. Make gifts and give new life to stained clothing. We will be working with indigo, oak galls, osage orange, cutch, iron, quebracho rojo, and a very special surprise plant dye— using all pigments which do not requiring mordanting (the pre-dye process) however, new textiles will need to be scoured which can most simply be achieved by machine washing on hot with laundry detergent containing soda ash (many powdered natural detergents do.) Pick up some white thrifted wears, cotton underwear (new and worn), socks, cloth napkins, tees, to create into one of a kind masterpieces. A tea towel, silk kerchief, and linen mask will also be provided to each participate to experiment with.
