Sulai Lopez is a conceptual interdisciplinary artist and costume designer working with weaving, natural dye, film, oil paints, up-cycled textiles, comedy, and performance.

Through the process of ritualized alchemic transformation of plant matter into pigments, fluffy delicate raw wool into felted rope, pain into comedy, Lopez instigates the potential transmutation of personal, societal and environmental trauma into greater understanding and compassion.

Multi-cultural with a Venezuelan Spaniard father and European American mother, Lopez grew up in a diverse landscape of environments including Mexico, Northern Maine, and Chicago finding home as an adult in New York City, India, Los Angeles, Joshua Tree California, and most currently living and help run an arts cooperative/land rehabilitation/communal living project on a former industrial rock quarry in rural Washington.

The diverse range of Lopez’s film, performance, and visual art work has been shown internationally including India, Mexico, Taos, LA, NYC, Paris, and Seattle.

Continuously fascinated by the alchemy of nature’s palette, Sulai leads natural dye workshop/gatherings where folks can learn and participate in the ancient and meditative practice.
